Big Thompson Report

The flows have jumped back up to around 145 cfs and the fishing yesterday was awesome. The fish were taking midge larva earlier in the day and smaller, darker baetis later in the day. Soft hackle sow bugs were the best fly and seemed to be what the fish wanted. There was no top water action and only a few bugs on the water all day. All the fish we landed were fat and happy and healthy including a 17 inch brownie! We heard of a recent shocking on the T that put a fish count at over 500 fish in just a few hundred yards below the dam; including a couple of browns pushing 20 inches. If the flow stays up the river will have a lot less ice and more fish-able water this winter. At some point I do imagine it will come down to @20 cfs like it always does , but a guy can dream can't he.

josh's Gravatar Thanks for the update, keep 'em coming. I fished the Big T. Sunday as well and totally agree the fishing was awesome. I saw a small BWO hatch in the morning but it did not draw any top water activity. Did well fishing rainbow warriors and mercury midges. All very nice, hard-fighting fish in the 12-15" range.
