LATEST REPORTS (North Platte Fly Shop):
8/26***GREY REEF IS AT 1100cfs*** The wind is kicking up today as a minor cool front makes it way across the state. It appears the Bur of Rec is beginning to step the flows down for the fall. With the trico hatch still in full tilt I would guess the dry fly fishing will continue on. As for everything else...the best of Grey Reef is right around the corner!
8/23 What can I say...things are about the same. 1501cfs,58-62F water temps, and the fish keep eating. I sat on the hill yesterday at the outhouse hole watching a pod of fish work the surface mercilessly. The boys reported good fishing yesterday with the pine squirrel leech being the "magic" bug. We should start to see a decrease in flows in the next few weeks and last I heard we should expect a fall flush around the middle of October.
8/20 The river conditions are holding steady. Stu floated in Casper yesterday and reported lots of floating weeds. Went out this morning and the fish on the upper are continuing to seek out tricos on the surface...let me tell you, it's fun...big fish on dries! Aside from the tricos the water below gov. bridge is crawling with caddis starting around 6:00pm. Streamer fishing is beginning to get fired up and will only get better as fall approaches.
8/17 The river is back down to 1500cfs and the temp. @ Grey Reef is between 58F-60F. Our boats out yesterday had excellent days on both dries and streamers. Bob Collins and co. of Colorado spent their entire day with Rick throwing nothing but dries! Once again this morning yielded another impressive trico hatch and the fish were there to greet them. I will keep you posted as things change. \
